July 4th Kentucky Outlaw Trails

July 3 thru July 6 2024

Checked in and set up at Laurel Creek Campground ....

Older campground with new owners who have built a new pavillion, new shop, and 5 new cabins. Still making improvements.

Just a few clips from our rides in the Hills of Kentucky.....more videos on our YouTube page........just search www.youtube.com/jerrychafton

This part of Kentucky has some of the most beautiful rock formations and over looks in the state.

Kevin and Karen checking out the Pall Mall Overlook.....

Pall Mall is the birthplace of WWI hero Alvin C. York...

Kevin kept trying to get me to back up some more..

Great Buddy, huh?

Robin taking in the views from the Pall Mall Loop overlook.

Different overlook from the first pictures....a couple miles down the trail from the first one..

Next stop was this Mineral Pond..

Must be spring fed because the level is always the same.

Anybody going swimming?

Robin and Karen said SURE.

These two girls are up for anything...

Back at Camp and ready to start cooking....Ray and Karen had a campsite that included a small Pavillion behind the coach parking. Really nice spot for get-togethers and campfires.

NEXT DAY

Next day we headed over to the Old Hippie Cabin to meet up with my Ol' Buddy Lonnie Spurling...

He knows these trails much better than anyone in this neck of the woods.

And the trail over to Tea Cup Overlook got a little challenging....Kevin got crossed up in the deep ruts and laid her over..

Minor damage to his wrist but the Yamaha only experienced another bent fender....Now both fenders match.

Karen wanted a picture with Lonnie.....everyone in our group was thrilled to have him join us on this adventure.......

And later it would be very, very beneficial.

The Thornton Family enjoying the fabulous views from the Tea Cup overlook although it was in the clouds and fog when we arrived.

Jimmy and Robin were brave enough to risk climbing under the Tea Cup Rock for a picture.

Popular spot for the adventurous, just don't lose you footing. It's several hundred feet to the bottom..

A better shot of what I am talking about here.

That picture spot is under the point on the right.

Jade is waiting for me to round up the crew and move on to the next spot..

It's a doosey....

As you will see......

So many pictures....which one do I pick for the Blog?

I'll go first...lol

Staging another buggy while Jimmy and Robin climb to the top of the Golden Arches of Kentucky.

Zoom in for this one....

And then there is Karen.....what can I say.

This gal is always ready for a challenge.

And Kevin has the wheels back on the ground for this shot.

Gotta keep an eye on this guy, ya never know which end is up.

Great picture.......Ray and Karen.........now we can move on to the next stop.......

Well, it was going great until it wasn't..

Ray barely made it back to the cabin. Time to get to work..

And Jimmy's RZR was making a noise as we arrived back at the cabin.

So we winch it up in the air so he can try to diagnose the problem while Ray works to fix a flat.

Not good, sound like the front diff is bad.

Sooooo......to make a long story short ....

Neither buggy can continue on and it's mid day.

This is where we were so fortunate to have Lonnie with us. He has a Cabin about 5 miles from here.

Jimmy will drive out with only rear wheel drive. We plugged Rays tire good enough to drive out to a gravel road where Lonnie went to his cabin, got a truck and trailer and took them back to camp one at a time.

This would have taken the whole day if Lonnie was not here.

BUT...There was still 3 of us left and we voted to continue on this adventure while the rest got back to camp.

Lonnie showed us the way to find the next overlook we were looking forward to doing.

So, off we went. With his instructions and my Trail Mapping System we found it in no time.

It is a daunting experience....Hang ON..

We call it the 'Stairway to Heaven"

And Jade is ready to take the challenge..

For the video experience in FULL you will need to find it on my YouTube Channel.

Search YouTube jerrychafton

This is just a teaser.....the video puts it in perspective..

58 steps after the rope climb.

But it's worth the effort.

You can experience it along with us in the video.

The trail continues even after you get to the top.....

5 minute video

So many pictures but can't get all of them on here.....Takes too long.

All videos are on my YouTube channel....It's just to complicated to get them onto the Blog.

There is one more overlook and it's also a fabulous video.

It's called Mill Point Overlook..

4 minute video on YouTube

And the trail problems continued

Ed and Sally's RZR overheated on the way back to camp. We tried cooling it down with water but to no avail.

Notice the tow rope.....I towed them back to camp...

All in a day's adventure...

But our day went far better than these folks.

This is the remnants of a four seater RZR we found along the trail by a creek.

And this is what happens when you can't get you buggy out of the woods.....

I think this one broke down in 1946...

But even after a long, hard day of playing in on the trails some found time to do a little dancing and dining back at camp.

Jimmy and Robin put on quite a display for the folks at camp. And Yes, there's a video for that.

And this guy made a short appearance during the party.

That's enough for this story, gonna wrap it up right here and get busy with several chores.......

Until next time...CHEERS
