After a crazy couple of days prior and a weekend weather forecast that said "Don't Go Riding" we loaded up the buggies, hopped in our Motorhomes and headed to the Mountains. Why? Cause we got Mud Buds that want to ride.
Now all I need is the time to put all these pictures, videos, and stories on the Blog....
This is just one band of several that made it's way thru our riding area.
This same storm system took five lives in Western Kentucky over the weekend.
We were very blessed to have missed the worst of these storms here in Eastern Kentucky.
We managed to get most of our destinations covered with only light showers but plenty of muddy trails and swollen creeks.
The overnite monsoon kinda changed our route for the second day, luckily we got the Tackett Creek ride in before that storm. So we headed over to Royal Blue for a short day ride because we knew we had another monsoon coming around 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
Wet and Tight ......just the way we like it..
Jimmy and Robin was my target....
Not a very clear day but the view is still awe inspiring.
Ed, Sally and Jade came down from Ohio to ride with us this weekend.
Jade is my navigator on days that Christine don't ride.
And while in the neighborhood we stopped and visited the Old Cabin..........along with several other sightseers.
The Old Cabin has been cleaned up a lot since our last trip down here. Somebody hauled off all the trash inside and out.
Jade posing for her "Cover Girl " picture.
As we walk down to the cabin....Usually take pictures in front but too much traffic today being Memorial Day Weekend.
Not sure who this guy is but somebody hollered SMILE and he obliged.
We all brought rain gear but got lucky and didn't need it....The big rains came last night.
And as we try to make our way down to the Sand Cave we encountered lots of traffic.
This couple had their Can-Am hung on a tree stump while trying to take a by pass down a rough trail.
With help from a spotter they were able to get it free.
Lunch Break on the Trails....
And there were plenty of waterfalls along the way.
With the thunderstorms that hit us last night the water was running out of every rock....
Well we made it to the "Sand Cave"...just not sure how long it will take to get out of this holler.....traffic is heavy today.
Hang on to your hat....we are taking the back door out of here. Sorry about the video quality but my navigator is using her IPhone to film while she hangs on for dear life.
The windshield is causing the focus to malfunction.....
Even with the rainy skies and cloud cover we still found some pretty neat overlooks.
And No, that's not 'Slate Rock" of
Tackett Creek fame.
We were at Slate Rock earlier but it was too greasy to climb...although there were dozens of buggies waiting for someone to try it.
This is just another rock mountain..
This view was from the back porch of the 'Old Cabin"........
But it wasn't all mud and rocks....
Beautiful day for a ride in the mountains....
Someone snapped this pic on the way back to camp.
We made it back to camp in time to grill up a big meal and with Christine's help we served 8 people in the Coach. It started raining hard just as we finished grilling.
She didn't ride any trails this trip due to her torn Meniscus. She has surgery scheduled for Friday. Hopefully she will have a fast recovery and be ready to ride the July 4th week. She doesn't want to miss that ride, it's her favorite place to go.
