The Jib Room April 7 thru April 16

Saturday, April 7

First thing you want to do when you check into a marina in the Bahama's is take a picture of the meters...both water and electric if they have them.
Some marina charge a flat rate.

Seems they get confused as to how much to charge you when you check out..
Happened twice so far.

Dinner on the back porch and a much quieter evening at the Jib Room marina.

The previous marina "Conch Inn" was a hub of activity due to them being headquarters of two catamaran rental companies.

Too many people....
and not very clean...

Sunday, April 8

Early this morning a marina employee was trying to remove this huge turtle from the marina area.

It was far too big to pick up so he was trying to get to shore or into the current because it had been decaying for several days.

Life on the water....

The Admiral and her sidekick said they wanted a "Do Nothing Day" and since it's Sunday I thought that was a good idea.

We just wandered around the area and visited the Parrot's Hangout.

We really like the Laid Back atmosphere here at The Jib Room.

Monday, April 9

Well, yesterday might have been a do nothing day but today is a new day.

We will start off by washing Mystic Lady and get her ready for a wax job this week.

David is my helper on this project, more about him later.

Wednesday April 11

From the looks of these skies I don't think we are going to get much waxing done today.

Heavy squalls moved thru Marsh Harbour last night dumping a lot of rain and wind.

It cleared up and looked good until about 9:00 am and here comes another line of storms.

Oh well, maybe tomorrow we can continue the chores.

That is if my helper David shows up.....seems he just thought he could wax a boat.

He said he could wax Mystic Lady in two days.....I just laughed.

So we headed over to The Jib Room for lunch and a drink while we make bets on whether David will come back.

And in the meantime Annie finds a couple from Ft. Lauderdale that she loves to play with. They own a house over on Green Turtle Cay and came over to the Jib Room for  lunch.

Annie gave him kissies all over his face, he loved it....Yuck

Looks like the girls have an audience while they play their games outside the Jib Room.

These kids and two sisters are visiting their grandpa on his sailboat.

But it didn't take long before Annie had their attention.

The kids family fly out tomorrow and grandpa sails back to Jacksonville....
a long Salty trip ahead of this next cold front coming Monday.

Thursday, April 12

My helper David has put in about 10 hours and he is not even 1/3 done with Mystic Lady.

He has had enough he says..
Guess I'll finish it myself.
Seems these young Bahamian guys are a lot like the young Americans.......they want a paycheck but aren't willing to break a sweat to get it.

Friday, April 13

It's party time at the Jib Room tonight.
The band was arriving as Annie and I was walking so we chatted a little and checked out the crew.

They came equipped with horns, drums made of barrels, and full head dress.

They arrived in this "Ton and a Half" flatbed truck with all their gear piled in the back.

Several more guys with full dress arrived in a van.

Quite a troop..

While the band was practicing in the parking lot the chef was flipping steaks on the grill..

The Jib Room is quite popular with the locals as well as the marina guests.

This was a private party for someone on the Island who was celebrating their 50th birthday.

The guests are coming by car, boat, dinghy, and ferry boat.

It was a packed house by the time the steaks were done.

The Jib Room also serves lunch on the deck and dinner on Wednesday and Saturday nights.

Saturday, April 14

A nice morning for a walk with Annie as the sun comes up.

This is an area of rental cottages across the street from our boat.

Looking across the Sea of Abaco toward "Man-O-War".

Another shot from the cottages that line this inlet.

They sit on a finger peninsula with the Sea on one side and this channel on the other.

Beautiful place to rent for a week or two.

And after our morning walk it's time to pack up the computer and walk back to the Jib Room to update this Blog.

The only place the Wifi works is at the bar and the porch..

So, order yourself a "Bilge Burner" and join the World Wide Web....

After a leisurely day on Mystic Lady we decided to sign up for the "Saturday Night Steak Dinner" at the Jib.

Entertainment for the night was a local who plays the "handsaw"....yeah, that's right..he bends the saw and rakes a screwdriver across the teeth and makes great music.
Here he is teaching some of the patrons to play along.

This might help you get an idea of the music and fun we had tonight. The meal was fabulous also..Steak, Baked Potato, salad, carrots, rolls, etc.......

After dinner the Admiral couldn't keep her eyes off the Weather Channel at the bar.

She's watching the storm that is headed our way tomorrow night.
We hope to move to Spanish Wells as soon as the storm passes.

Sunday, April 15

Seems this cold front is pulling in some strong winds from the South so we packed up some snorkel gear and headed to the Leeward side to do some beach time.

Dave and Michele joined in as well as Annie.

After about 30 minutes of serious snorkeling I needed some Beach Chair time.

Beautiful view here at "Mermaid Reef Beach"...

Got some video if I can get it on the blog before the Wifi crashes.

Just a little sample of the Snorkeling in the Bahama's.....Gonna do a better job next time.
Seen many more fish than this but the Go-Pro was not adjusted to see what I was seeing.

This looks like one Nasty Storm.

Our Weather Guru "Chris Parker Weather" says it will bring some T-Storms and Squalls thru here early Monday morning.

Bring it on Mama Nature.........we're ready.
