Kelly and Norma pulled out late this morning on their sailboat "Tilaria ll".
We will probably meet up with them again tomorrow in Bimini as we will spend the night there and get an early start Tuesday to cross the Gulf Stream.
We are hoping for calm seas and no storms...
Mystic Lady is fueled up and patiently waiting to take her crew back to Florida.
The trawler next to us is also crossing tomorrow......but that boat hasn't moved in almost 2 years according to the dockmaster. The owners are building a house here on the Island.
So much for plans...at the last minute the Admiral and the Captain finally agreed on making an all day run from the Berry Islands to West Palm...
The weather was not looking good for a crossing from Bimini on Tuesday.'
We left Great Harbour Cay at first light and we knew we would see showers and squalls along the way.
"Mystic Lady" and "Just Us" made it thru some scattered squall activity just in time...
The scattered became "mostly" then turned into a solid wall of thunderstorms and heavy rain.
We knew it was going to improve later in the day as we made the Gulf Stream crossing but the "Tongue of the Ocean" was a bit rough in the early a.m.
It was a good decision because this line was right behind us as we left the Tongue and entered the Straits of Florida. All in All it was a good day but a long and tiring day. This Old Captain was a "Tired Puppy" buy the time we reached
Florida. Up at 4:00 a.m..........11 1/2 hours of seas.......45 minutes up to the anchorage and get set up for the night....and 3 minutes to crash on the bed....
More rain and lots of sea....
The 139 mile trip was the longest single day of cruising so far.
Both boats performed perfectly, weather forecast was good except sea state...."Chris Parker Weather" had seas at 3-5 ft....Windfinder had them at 1-2 ft.....Parker was the closest.
Someone posted this screenshot the next day....
I would say we got out of Dodge just in time...We would have been stuck in Bimini for several days.
Just got an email from Kelly and Norma on "Tiliara ll"...They are safely in Ft.Lauderdale.
Like us, they decided to make a run for it at the last minute. But being on a sailboat means a day and night run.
They skipped the Bimini layover and sailed straight thru to Ft. Lauderdale......so proud of those two...sure hope we meet up with them another day...
Total miles traveled so far = 736.6
